Description
Dahlia ‘Great Hercules’ is an oversized decorative dahlia prized for its enormous blooms and commanding garden presence. Producing flowers that can reach 25 cm or more across, this variety delivers dramatic late-summer impact with warm peach and apricot tones softened by buttery highlights. The fully double blooms are formed from broad, gently curved petals that create a full, rounded shape with a luminous glow in sunlight. Despite their impressive size, the flowers remain elegant rather than heavy, bringing warmth and richness into borders and cutting gardens alike.
Flowering continuously from midsummer until the first frosts, Dahlia ‘Great Hercules’ grows on strong upright stems supported by vigorous plants reaching around 100–120 cm tall. Early staking is recommended to support the oversized blooms and maintain clean, upright growth throughout the season. In the garden, this variety works best as a focal point or structural feature where the bloom size can be fully appreciated. It pairs beautifully with darker dahlias, deep foliage, creams, and soft whites for dramatic seasonal contrast.
As a cut flower, even a single bloom creates instant impact in arrangements, adding volume, warmth, and structure.
Plant dahlia tubers in spring after the danger of frost has passed, in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Regular cutting and deadheading encourage continuous flowering through autumn.
