Description
Dahlia ‘Que Sera’ is an anemone-flowered dahlia valued for its layered bloom shape and softly blended colouring. The flowers combine a delicate outer ring of petals with a raised, textured centre, creating a lighter and more expressive appearance than fuller double dahlias. The colouring shifts between creamy white, blush pink, lilac and soft mauve tones, often deepening gently toward the petal tips. At the centre, a dense cushion of tubular florets forms a richer contrast, giving each flower a painterly, watercolour-like effect. Subtle variation between blooms ensures the plant never feels flat or overly uniform.
Flowers typically measure around 10–15 cm across and are carried on strong, upright stems. Plants grow to approximately 90–120 cm in height, forming a vigorous, branching habit that flowers freely throughout the season. From midsummer until the first frosts, ‘Que Sera’ produces a continuous succession of blooms. Regular cutting or deadheading encourages even more flowering, making it especially rewarding in cutting gardens and mixed borders.
In the garden, this variety brings softness and texture without disappearing into the background. It blends beautifully with creams, pale pinks, mauves and deeper late-season tones, while the open centres also attract bees and pollinators.
As a cut flower, it is highly versatile. The sturdy stems and unusual colouring make it easy to combine with both romantic and more dramatic arrangements, adding detail and movement without overpowering surrounding flowers.
