Description
Dahlia ‘Zahra’ brings a fresh, elegant feel to late summer planting with its beautifully structured anemone-style blooms. The flowers combine crisp ivory-white outer petals with a softly domed centre packed with tiny tubular florets in warm cream and pale buttery yellow. This contrast between the clean outer shape and the textured heart gives the blooms a refined, almost handcrafted appearance. Unlike heavier double dahlias, ‘Zahra’ feels lighter and more open in the garden while still offering excellent presence. The blooms usually reach around 11–13 cm across and sit neatly above the foliage on sturdy stems, making them equally suited to borders and floral arrangements.
Flowering continuously from midsummer until the first frosts, this variety is particularly generous with blooms. Plants form tidy upright clumps reaching approximately 90 cm in height, with reliable stems that rarely feel untidy or overcrowded. Its soft ivory colouring blends effortlessly into calming planting schemes and works especially well with ornamental grasses, pale pinks, soft apricots and muted greens. The textured centres also create useful contrast beside fuller decorative dahlias or simpler single-flowered varieties.
As a cut flower, Dahlia ‘Zahra’ is extremely versatile. The elegant shape adds texture and detail to bouquets without overpowering surrounding flowers, while the light colouring helps brighten mixed arrangements. Plant tubers in spring in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny position for the best flowering performance. Regular deadheading will encourage continuous blooming well into autumn.
Refined yet easy to place, Dahlia ‘Zahra’ is an excellent choice for gardens that favour softer colour palettes, natural texture and long-lasting seasonal interest.
