Description

Dahlia ‘Bohemian Spartacus’ is a striking dinnerplate dahlia known for its impressive flower size and richly patterned colouring. It produces large, open blooms with broad, slightly irregular petals that give each flower a relaxed, artistic appearance. The colour is a deep velvety red, dramatically streaked and brushed with creamy yellow. Some blooms show strong contrast, while others appear more softly blended, meaning every flower develops its own unique character throughout the season.

Flowers can reach 20–25 cm across and are carried on strong stems that hold the blooms well when the plant is properly supported. Plants grow to around 90–110 cm tall, forming a bold, upright structure suited to feature planting or cutting gardens. Dahlia ‘Bohemian Spartacus’ flowers continuously from mid-summer until the first frost, especially when regularly deadheaded or harvested for cutting. It performs best in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil, with early staking recommended due to the size of the blooms.

In the garden, it works best as a focal point variety. Its large blooms and strong colouring make it ideal for standout positions or for adding impact within mixed borders. It pairs particularly well with deep greens, burgundy foliage, and soft neutral tones such as cream or blush, where the flowers can take centre stage. As a cut flower, it is highly valued for its scale and visual impact. A few stems are often enough to create a full, expressive arrangement with strong structure and movement.

          - Set the bulbs or bare root in place, pointed side or sprout side upward.

          - Cover the bulbs by replacing the soil and water thoroughly.
