Description

Dahlia ‘Destiny’s Teacher’ is a light, expressive star-type dahlia known for its open form and strong colour contrast. The blooms are star-shaped with long, narrow petals that gently twist outward, creating a natural, airy appearance. Each flower has a crisp white base, heavily marked with deep wine-red streaks and splashes that vary from bloom to bloom. Some petals show fine, delicate lines, while others display bolder markings, ensuring no two flowers ever look the same. A bright golden centre adds further contrast and attracts pollinators throughout the season.

Flowers typically measure 7–10 cm across and are produced in abundance from midsummer until the first frosts. Plants grow to around 100–125 cm tall with a branching, informal habit that fits easily into mixed planting schemes. In the garden, Dahlia ‘Destiny’s Teacher’ brings movement and a more natural feel, working especially well in cottage-style borders and wildlife-friendly plantings where its open structure blends with surrounding plants. The open centres are particularly attractive to bees and other beneficial insects.

As a cut flower, it is best used to add contrast and lightness to arrangements rather than as a focal bloom. It pairs well with larger dahlias and softer seasonal flowers, adding texture and detail. For best results, plant tubers in spring in a sunny, well-drained position and provide support in exposed gardens.

          Planting information

          - Dig a hole to the required depth. You can find this required depth for each type of bulb, tuber or root in the growing guides.

          - Depth is measurement of space between the soil line and top of bulb or bare root.

          - Set the bulbs or bare root in place, pointed side or sprout side upward.

          - Cover the bulbs by replacing the soil and water thoroughly.
