Description
Dahlia ‘Happy Butterfly’ is a cheerful waterlily dahlia that combines soft sunset tones with an open, pollinator-friendly flower form. The blooms blend warm shades of peach, apricot, and soft pink around bright golden centres, creating a light and airy display full of movement. Unlike heavier decorative dahlias, the flowers have a relaxed, open structure that allows bees and butterflies easy access to the pollen-rich centre. As the blooms mature, the colouring subtly shifts and softens, giving the plant a lively, ever-changing appearance throughout the season.
Flowering continuously from midsummer until the first frosts, Dahlia ‘Happy Butterfly’ produces masses of blooms on tall, slender stems above well-branched plants reaching around 90–120 cm tall. The flowers sway beautifully in the breeze, adding softness and natural movement to borders and mixed plantings. Perfect for cottage gardens, prairie-style planting, and wildlife-friendly borders, this variety pairs beautifully with ornamental grasses, salvias, echinacea, and other airy perennials.
Although more informal than traditional cut-flower dahlias, it also creates relaxed, freshly gathered bouquets with a natural garden feel.
Plant dahlia tubers in spring after the danger of frost has passed, in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Regular deadheading encourages continuous flowering through the season.
