Description
Dahlia ‘Nadia Ruth’ is a spectacular dinnerplate-style fimbriata dahlia that combines enormous blooms with an unexpectedly soft, elegant appearance. Its fully double flowers can reach an impressive 15–25 cm across, yet the finely fringed petals and delicate pastel colouring prevent the blooms from ever feeling heavy or overly formal. The flowers open in beautifully blended shades of shell pink, blush, buttercream, and creamy ivory. Warmer buttery tones gather toward the centre, while the outer petals gradually soften into pale cream and white, creating a luminous, almost glowing effect throughout the season. As the blooms mature, subtle colour shifts appear across the petals, adding extra depth and variation to the plant.
What makes ‘Nadia Ruth’ especially distinctive is its fimbriata flower form. Each petal is finely cut and delicately feathered at the tip, creating a soft, textured finish that gives the large blooms movement and lightness. Up close, the intricate petal detail becomes especially striking, while from a distance the flowers appear full, airy, and softly illuminated. Plants grow to approximately 90–120 cm in height, forming a strong, upright habit with sturdy stems capable of supporting the oversized blooms throughout the flowering season. Flowering begins in midsummer and continues steadily until the first frost, especially when flowers are regularly cut or deadheaded. Due to the bloom size, early staking is recommended to keep stems upright and well supported.
In the garden, Dahlia ‘Nadia Ruth’ works beautifully as a soft focal point in borders and layered planting schemes. Its pastel colouring blends effortlessly with blush pinks, pale apricots, creams, soft yellows, and muted mauves, while also bringing brightness and contrast beside deeper burgundy and plum tones. The blooms catch evening light beautifully, adding a gentle glow to late summer planting combinations.
As a cut flower, this variety is exceptional. The long stems, enormous blooms, and feathered texture make it ideal for romantic bouquets and large-scale floral arrangements. Despite its size, the flower form remains soft and graceful, adding volume and texture without overpowering surrounding flowers.
Plant dahlia tubers in spring after the risk of frost has passed, in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny position. Water regularly during dry periods and provide support early in the season for the best flowering performance. In colder regions, lift and store tubers after the first frost.
