Description
Dahlia ‘Striped Ambition’ is a cactus dahlia known for its striking form and highly expressive colouring. The blooms are made up of long, narrow petals that twist and curl outward, forming a spiky, firework-like shape that adds movement and structure to the garden. The colouring opens in soft lavender-pink tones, heavily streaked and brushed with deeper purple and magenta markings. Each bloom develops differently, with some flowers remaining lighter pink while others deepen into richer violet shades as they mature. This variation creates a naturally dynamic display across the plant.
Flowers measure around 10 cm across and are held on strong, upright stems that rise clearly above the foliage. Plants form a vigorous, well-branched habit and reach approximately 90–120 cm in height, making them suitable for both borders and cutting gardens. From midsummer until the first frosts, ‘Striped Ambition’ produces a continuous succession of blooms. Regular cutting encourages further flowering, ensuring consistent performance throughout the season.
In the garden, this variety adds strong texture and contrast rather than soft blending. It works especially well alongside solid-coloured dahlias, ornamental grasses and softer pastel planting schemes, where its striping and spiky form create clear visual interest.
As a cut flower, it is highly effective. The long stems and distinctive colouring make it particularly valuable in arrangements where structure, movement and contrast are needed.
