Description
Dahlia ‘Zippity Do Da’ brings a lively, continuous rhythm to the garden with its abundance of small, perfectly shaped pompon blooms. Each flower forms a tight, rounded sphere with neatly arranged petals, creating a precise, almost architectural look that repeats beautifully through the planting. The colouring sits in a soft, playful range of lilac pink to candy pink, often enriched with a deeper raspberry or purple centre. Subtle variation between blooms adds depth and keeps the display feeling fresh, with no two flowers looking quite identical.
Flowers measure around 5 cm across and appear in great numbers from midsummer through to the first frosts. Plants grow to approximately 90–100 cm tall, forming a strong, upright habit that carries a continuous succession of buds and blooms. In the garden, it creates a gentle dotted effect when planted in groups, bringing structure and repetition without heaviness. The compact flower form blends easily into both soft and more vibrant planting schemes, supporting surrounding plants rather than dominating them.
As a cut flower, it is especially reliable. The small pompon blooms hold their shape well and work beautifully in mixed arrangements, where they add texture and fill between larger flowers. For best results, plant tubers in spring in a sunny, well-drained position and deadhead regularly to maintain continuous flowering.
Planting information
- Dig a hole to the required depth. You can find this required depth for each type of bulb, tuber or root in the growing guides.
- Depth is measurement of space between the soil line and top of bulb or bare root.
- Set the bulbs or bare root in place, pointed side or sprout side upward.
- Cover the bulbs by replacing the soil and water thoroughly.
