Description
Looking for a special plant to brighten up your garden at the end of summer? Oxalis ‘Double Trouble’ is a beautiful flower that starts blooming in late summer and keeps going into autumn. It has double the petals of normal Oxalis flowers, starting as a soft peach-salmon colour and slowly turning golden yellow. The flowers grow above green, clover-shaped leaves, creating a cheerful and colourful look.
The flowers open wide during sunny days and close up in the evening like little curled-up buds—almost like candy. It’s a fun and charming plant to watch throughout the day.
This plant is small and low to the ground. It grows well in pots, rock gardens, or sunny, sheltered flower beds. It needs soil that drains well and should be protected from strong frost. In the right spot, it will come back every year and slowly grow into a larger clump.
Oxalis ‘Double Trouble’ comes from South Africa, so it prefers warm, dry winters. It doesn’t like long periods of freezing temperatures, especially in wet soil.
To protect the plant during winter:
- If winters are mild where you live, you may be able to leave the bulbs in the ground—as long as the soil stays dry and doesn’t freeze hard.
- If you get cold winters, it’s better to:
- Grow it in pots so you can move it indoors when it gets cold.
- Or take the bulbs out of the ground after the leaves die back, and store them in a cool, dry place until spring.
The bulbs are small and easy to move, so it’s simple to care for them.
We send out Oxalis ‘Double Trouble’ bulbs in autumn, ready to plant right away. Just find a sunny, well-drained spot and enjoy the happy double blooms as your summer garden fades.
