Description
If your garden needs a fresh burst of colour in late summer, Oxalis ‘Golden Cape’ is a great choice. This cheerful plant has golden-yellow flowers with deep red streaks on the outside of the petals—like they’ve been painted with flames. Even before the flowers bloom, its green, palm-shaped leaves give your garden a nice, tidy look.
Plant the bulbs in autumn. They grow quietly through winter and start to bloom from late summer into autumn. The flowers open in the sun and close in the evening, curling up like little candy wrappers—adding a fun touch to their beauty.
Golden Cape is perfect for growing in containers, gravel gardens, rockeries, or sunny, protected spots in the garden. It likes soil that drains well and will often come back each year, slowly spreading to make a bright, colourful patch. With just a few bulbs, you'll get more flowers over time—a great way to keep your garden looking lively for years.
Since this plant comes from South Africa, it prefers warmer winters. It can be harmed by freezing weather, especially in wet soil.
To protect your bulbs in cold weather:
- Grow them in pots that can be moved indoors during winter.
- Or take the bulbs out of the soil after the leaves die back and store them in a dry, cool place until spring.
The bulbs are small and easy to move, so taking care of them is simple—and they’ll reward you with even more flowers next season.
We send out Oxalis ‘Golden Cape’ bulbs in autumn, ready for planting. Just place them in a sunny, well-drained spot and enjoy their bright blooms when most other plants are fading.
