Peony Quitzin

Peony ‘Quitzin’ is a highly distinctive herbaceous peony valued by collectors for its rare colouring and refined flower structure. The blooms open from tightly packed buds in fresh green and lime-tinged tones, gradually unfolding into soft layers of cream, pale yellow, and warm champagne, often with subtle peach highlights at the base of the petals.

Rather than opening all at once, each flower evolves slowly over several days, shifting in tone and form as it expands. This creates a layered, almost living colour transition that makes the plant especially rewarding to observe throughout its blooming period.

The fully developed flowers are large, rounded and densely double, carried on sturdy stems that hold their shape well even when the blooms reach full weight. At around 80–90 cm tall, the plant forms a strong presence in mixed perennial borders without becoming overpowering.

‘Quitzin’ flowers in the later part of the peony season, extending interest into early summer when many other varieties have already faded. Its fresh, light fragrance adds another subtle layer to its appeal.

This is a long-lived perennial that improves with age, gradually forming stronger clumps and more abundant flowering each year when planted in a sunny, well-drained position. It is best placed where its unusual colouring can be appreciated up close, such as near paths, seating areas, or curated border plantings.
