Description

Spigelia ‘Little Redhead’ is a colourful perennial that brings something a little different to the garden. From late spring into summer, it produces eye-catching scarlet red flowers with bright golden-yellow, star-shaped tips that stand out beautifully against the rich green foliage.

Although it has an exotic look, this is an easy and dependable plant to grow. It forms tidy, upright clumps that fit neatly into mixed borders without spreading too far, making it a great choice for woodland gardens, partially shaded beds and natural-style planting.

The bright flowers are loved by bees and other pollinators, adding vibrant colour just as many spring-flowering plants begin to fade. It looks especially attractive planted with ferns, hostas, heucheras, astrantias and other shade-loving perennials.

For the best results, grow in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. It performs best in partial shade but will also thrive in a sunny spot if the soil stays evenly moist. Once established, it is a long-lived perennial that comes back every year with very little care.

Compact, colourful and easy to grow, Spigelia ‘Little Redhead’ is a wonderful choice for gardeners looking for an unusual perennial that brings lasting colour and attracts wildlife.
